SINCE the first week of April COURAGE has been able to feed approximately 27 000 persons within the Imizamo Yethu and Hangberg communities of Hout Bay. To date we have delivered 8200 food parcels and 12 000 vegetable packs into approximately 6800 homes. None of this would have been possible without the tremendous dedication of the COURAGE volunteers, partners and sponsors, the extraordinary drive of the community teams that make the distributions, and the amazing contributions made by all our donors. Our sincerest thanks to all of you!
But today we want to pay special tribute to the legendary hotelier Sol Kerzner and the incredible generosity of the Kerzner family, who have truly gone above and beyond in supporting our community.
We wish to honour the memory of the inimitable Sol Kerzner, who passed away at his home in Hout Bay, Cape Town on 20 March 2020. Sol’s vision, and the destinations he built, created amazing experiences and everlasting memories for so many of us. But that is not all. As Nelson Mandela said, “Sol Kerzner was by far the greatest entrepreneur in this country’s tourist business, and the Kerzners are an example of a family not only interested in their own enrichment, but willing to give something back to their own country”. The boundless generosity of the Kerzner family is, in Sol’s infamous words, enabling COURAGE to “box on”. The sun may have set on the Sun King, but his largess is still bringing sunshine, sustenance and strength to his fellow South Africans.
He was a legend. And we are proud and enormously grateful to be part of his legacy.
