Four new veggie circles are in the making inside Imizamo Yethu! This is all thanks to the Love in a Bowl team and Gordon Aeschliman, a man with a great heart and love for the Hout Bay community. This model of food security and sustainability will see a creative and powerful collaboration between Courage, Love in a Bowl and iKhaya le Themba, growing more nutritious organic veggies in partnership with the community.
In this joint adventure, Love In A Bowl will mentor and train selected parents (of the progamme’s children) to prepare the land, establish the signature crop circles and nurture the veggies to full maturity. In turn, we will all be contributing to the nourishment of Ikhaya’s children.
It is such a good feeling to know that, before the cold winter rains return, all the kids of iKhaya le Themba will be enjoying fresh veggies daily from these four new magical circles just outside their windows. Love in a Bowl will keep these going alongside their community – ALL YEAR LONG!
Courage, as a partner in the Love in a Bowl Initiative would like to acknowledge all the amazing individuals and community initiatives who make these absolutely crucial contributions work. We give thanks to Susan Hill for initiating this idea, Phila and Nomvula for coordinating the programme with the parents and of course the Love In A Bowl who provide the mentorship and training.
